Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is one of the top free-agent forwards available this summer, and teams like the Columbus Blue Jackets are watching.

Mitch Marner is expected to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer, but until then, fans are waiting for Marner to actually say something about his status.
Numerous teams are gunning for his services right now, and it has led to quite a bit of chatter about his agent Darren Ferris and the moves he's made in the past.
For instance, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic is bringing up the time Marner almost signed an offer sheet with the Columbus Blue Jackets all the way back in 2019.

Is Mitch Marner signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets?

At the time, Marner was 22 years old and was on the verge of becoming the superstar we know him as today.
Negotiations with the Leafs were going sour, and Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen tried to swoop in and make a deal with Ferris.
In the end, things fell through, and Marner signed a six-year deal worth an AAV of $10.9 million. Now, Mitch stands to make much more than that.
To this day, it's hard to say how serious the talks were between the Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner, then a 22-year-old restricted free agent.

But as The Athletic reported back then, Kekäläinen and Darren Ferris, Marner's agent, at least discussed the possibility of signing Marner to an offer sheet.

Marner ultimately stayed with the Maple Leafs, signing a six-year, $65.4 million contract during which he cemented his status as one of the NHL's top talents. That contract expires July 1, and Marner is set to hit the market, this time as an unrestricted free agent.

In fact, the Blue Jackets find themselves gunning for Marner, yet again. This time, they could be offering a whopping $14 million per season.
Columbus isn't exactly the most attractive destination in the league, so you have to wonder whether or not Mitch is seriously considering the franchise.
Either way, his free agency decision has everyone paying attention right now.
