Mitch Marner is likely to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs in free agency, but as it turns out, there is one team that is trying to make a play, and they're the most bitter rival you could think of.
After exceeding the 100-point mark for the first time in his career, Mitch Marner is ready to receive the biggest contract he'll ever sign.
Although he could sign with the Leafs for eight years, it seems more likely right now that Marner will sign with someone else for seven years.
Meanwhile, some teams out there are considering paying him over $14 million per season, simply because they know it would make him take them seriously as potential landing spots.
Are the Ottawa Senators signing Mitch Marner?
One team that could be willing to jump out the window is the Ottawa Senators. Previously, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period floated the Sens as a team that would take a look at Marner.
Meanwhile, Jeff Marek of 'The Sheet' is now echoing those same sentiments. Now, two separate analysts and insiders are claiming to watch out for the Leafs' most hated rival to make a play.
Ottawa is a darkhorse for Mitch Marner; ownership would love to make a splash
Some might find the idea of Marner on the Senators absolutely absurd. But the issue with today's day and age, is you can never count anything out.
The dumbest outcome is always the outcome that is the likeliest to happen, whether you like it or not. Although, it is still hard to imagine Marner staying in Canada.
Among his top landing spots are the Las Vegas Golden Knights, the Los Angeles Kings, and the Florida Panthers. All of these places are down South and offer anonymity.
Given everything Mitch Marner has been through in Toronto, it is understandable why he would want to run far away.
