With the Toronto Maple Leafs desperate to add size and scoring to their roster this offseason, they were looking towards a familiar face on the Dallas Stars.
The Maple Leafs could look at Stars forward Mason Marchment; that's the type of player they will go after
Marchment is a forward who played four games for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2019-2020 season, although he only managed one assist before being traded away.
After two 22-goal seasons in a row, the Leafs were showing interest in bringing back the 6'5" power forward, as he has developed into a really nice player.
Unfortunately, the Seattle Kraken beat them to the punch with a well-timed deal on Thursday evening.
Mason Marchment traded to the Seattle Kraken
The Kraken were able to acquire the forward for the low price of a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a third-round pick in 2026. Something that general manager Brad Treliving could have easily offered.
Whiffing on Marchment is a broader trend that Maple Leafs fans should see as quite concerning. The team has yet to sign
John Tavares, and they have yet to even sign
Matthew Knies.
Now, Marchment is off the market, and so is
Chris Kreider. Ultimately, Treliving needs to start making moves; otherwise, the Leafs will fall behind.
It's a harsh reality, but this is not the summer to be complacent. Instead, the team has to be very proactive in all of its moves.
