Brad Treliving Makes Yet Another Announcement, This Time in Regards to John Tavares

John Tavares and the Toronto Maple Leafs are currently in the midst of negotiating a new contract, and as you can imagine, it hasn't been the easiest process.

By now, both sides should have come to an agreement. But so far, that has not happened. Although there has been some progress over the last few days, it remains clear that Tavares' demands are beyond what the Leafs want to pay.

With free agency coming up in five days, fans are wondering if we will get some significant updates soon, or if the Leafs are doomed to lose their former captain.

Thankfully, Sportsnet reports Luke Fox got to speak with Brad Treliving about all of this on Thursday. The General Manager gave a huge update on Mitch Marner, and he also revealed what is happening with John Tavares.

Essentially, both sides are getting closer and closer. The team and Tavares want to remain together, but they understand that the conditions have to be correct.

For now, it seems like the dollars and the terms are what are keeping this deal from being signed into reality. Unfortunately, that is something the Leafs must figure out, and fast.

They also have to sign an extension for Matthew Knies, and that has been taking a lot longer than fans had hoped, as well.

Hopefully, we will get some positive developments on that front in the coming days. The Leafs are counting on some good news before Mitch Marner leaves.

If Tavares leaves as well, then that will be categorized as a disastrous start to free agency from Treliving.
