Brendan Shanahan offers an honest critique of Craig Berube's system
In a recent interview with TSN's Gino Reda, Brendan Shanahan addressed several topics surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs appear content to let the season play out before deciding on Mitch Marner's future.
Discussing about
Auston Matthews' health, Brendan Shanahan reassured fans that Auston Matthews is now fully healthy after his recent injury and trip to Germany for treatment.
He emphasized the team's commitment to support the players with the top-tier medical resources while keeping injury details private for competitive reasons.
Regarding the Leafs' shift in style since the arrival of Craig Berube, Shanahan talked about Brad Treliving's roster changes and Craig Berube's hiring as head coach.
This shift focused on stronger defensive play, which is similar to the Florida Panthers' approach that led to a championship last year and as of now, it's working really well.
Brendan Shanahan had good words on the players for embracing Berube's defensive mindset and credited solid goaltending for the team's improvement this season.
Having held George Parros' role before at the DOPS, Brendan Shanahan knows that Parros is really openminded and open to discussion with anyone.
He also talked about his own contract status which is in the
final year of his deal and he deflected the attention from himself by saying that he his committed to the Maple Leafs' success and is focusing on helping the team improve every day.
He noted that management contracts are different from player or coach contracts, and his priority remains the team's present, not his future for now.
