Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has been struggling this season but now, it would appear as though Bruce Boudreau has all of the answers.
Bruce Boudreau reveals what the deal is with Morgan Rielly
While speaking with The Leafs Nation, former NHL head coach had a lot to say about the Rielly situation.
Overall, the head coach had some pretty great insights about the defenseman and how he hasn't changed the way he plays the game in years.
Instead, he has been stagnant regardless of who his head coach has been and it is a real problem.
Boudreau believes if Rielly can adapt to what Craig Berube is doing, then he can definitely find himself back in the team's good graces.
"I do think it's a problem. He hasn't changed the way he has played. Whether it was Sheldon Keefe or when he was drafted 5th overall.
He hasn't adjusted to the style Craig [Berube] wants him to play so consequently, I mean...
He's still up the ice, and you can look, a lot of the time he has to circle behind the net to get back.
I used to tell Mike Green all the time 'I want you to be the fourth man up on the play, I don't want you to be the first man on the play.'
More often than not Morgan Rielly is the first or second man and he can't get back which hurts him defensively."
Rielly is currently a -18 this season which is a real issue. Not to mention, he only has 22 points in just under 50 games.
The Leafs need more out of their $7.5 million per year defenseman, and they just aren't getting it right now.
Hopefully, the tide can turn sooner rather than later, otherwise, the Leafs may be in trouble towards the playoffs.
It is up to Rielly to figure it out and show people he is motivated to keep pushing.
