Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner will become a free agent on July 1st and there is one Canadian team that seems likely to swoop in and sign him.
Mitch Marner is likely to become a free agent on July 1st as he has refused to sign a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs all season long.
Overall, fans won't be sad to see him go, especially when they take into consideration how bad he has been throughout the playoffs.
Of course, he could always turn things around and give his Leafs a win on Friday night, which would then force a Game 7 on Sunday.
According to a report from The Daily Faceoff, there is a Canadian team that is ready to pounce if and when Marner decides to explore free agency.
That team just so happens to be the Calgary Flames, who could use a superstar on their roster.
"One has to wonder if the Flames have their sights set on Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner. But, if I'm to connect dots based on what I've been told, Marner would, theoretically, be a perfect fit for the Flames."
It was also noted that Mitch Marner could get Mikko Rantanen money and that the Flames have all of the cap space possible to get him what he wants.
"With Rantanen's AAV coming in at $12 million... there is no reason to believe that Marner will not get at least that. If Marner does ultimately make it to July 1, the Flames would be in a prime position to offer him well north of that with their projected $18 million of cap space."
Whether or not the Flames go for that, remains to be seen. One has to wonder if Marner would be a better playoff performer somewhere else. But for now, he is known as a choker and that may never change.
