Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is in need of a new contract this summer, however, one NHL Insider is saying that this may not happen in the end.
With Game 6 potentially being the last Leafs game of the season, many are wondering what is going to happen to the forward as he becomes a free agent on July 1st.
While some would love for him to stay, others are simply sick and tired of the horrible play he has given the Leafs whenever the games become meaningful.
Will Mitch Marner re-sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs?
In fact, with what went down at the trade deadline with
Mikko Rantanen, it seems like Mitch wants out fast.
"There is absolutely zero reason to believe that he'll be signing another contract in Toronto on or before July 1 - not after refusing to negotiate an in-season extension with the Leafs or even considering a request from management to waive his no-movement clause at the trade deadline."
Johnston reports that many around the league are already banking on the idea that Marner wants a fresh start far away from Toronto.
"There's been a growing sense that the 28-year-old winger wants a fresh start after enduring an avalanche of criticism for his team's repeated playoff shortcomings."
If Friday really is the last game of the season, then Marner's potential final run with the Maple Leafs will have been truly fruitless and quite frankly, pointless.
