Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner might be playing his last game with the franchise on Friday as he will become a free agent this summer.

Mitch Marner needed to have a good game last night. Instead, he had one of his most invisible games of the entire season filled with turnover and some truly awful plays.
Overall, fans were completely shocked by how poorly he played. Given his contract situation, that may have been his last game in Toronto.
Meanwhile, Game 6 on Friday could be his last ever game as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, period. It is a harsh reality but it is one that he must come to grips with.

Mitch Marner on Toronto Maple Leafs future

After the game, Marner spoke to the media and as many have recounted, his comments haven't exactly struck the correct tone.
He played a horrible game and instead of taking some real accountability, he has been saying things like "flush it down the toilet."
Moreover, when asked about last night potentially being his last ever game in Toronto, he just seemed completely aloof. Instead of offering a substantive answer, Marner shied away and said none of this is on his mind.
Overall, you cannot help but be discouraged by all of this if you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. The team has simply been too wishy-washy over the last few years when it comes time for the playoffs.
When the going gets tough, a lot of these guys try to go away and hide, which is absolutely unacceptable when you are being paid eight figures per season.
With Marner seeking a huge contract this summer, the Leafs must seriously consider cutting him loose. It doesn't even seem like he's interested in seeing this through.
A loss in Game 6 and a bad performance from Mitch Marner should put an end to his time in the city. It would be best for both sides to move on at that point.
