Overall, the team was looking pretty bad as they were down 3-1 in the third period. However, the team came back and won in overtime.
Unfortunately, there was one moment in the game when fans felt like things were very dire.
For instance, Steven Lorentz scored a goal that was going to make the score 3-2. In the end, the goal was called back for a kicking motion off of his shin. The rule below explains it.
"The action of a player deliberately using his skate(s) with a kicking motion to propel the puck or to contact an opponent."
That said, the rule does note that it has to be off of a skate. There is nothing about shins mentioned in here.
"I don't understand that call because if you look at the rule, the kicking motion is a skate, right? This wasn't the skate, it's the shin pad. So I don't get it, you know? But guys just stuck with it. They didn't, they weren't focused on it. They just were focused on the next shift, which was good by them."
Either way, none of this matters at the end of the day as the Leafs were able to pull out a huge win.
Having said that, the league does need to figure out video review, because there are a ton of inconsistencies that have not gotten much better over the years.
Only time will tell whether or not it is something that the league is even interested in cleaning up at this stage.
