Craig Berube Reveals What He Told Morgan Rielly in their Emergency One-on-One Meeting

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had a chat with defenseman Morgan Rielly on Friday and it was the most important talk they will have all season.
Morgan Rielly has been one of the weaker defensemen on the Maple Leafs this season and at this point, something has got to give.
There have been calls for Craig Berube to bench the alternate captain although for now, that does not appear to be a real option.

On Friday, the head coach sat down with his defenseman, and they had a chat about fixing some of the issues that have materialized over the last few months.
While speaking to the media, Berube revealed what he told Rielly. Simply put, he articulated to the defenseman that he needed to be more aggressive.
«More aggressive for me. Just not being tentative-just get up, play like he normally does, and do his thing offensively.
I mean, mistakes happen in the game for everybody, and you can't be focused on mistakes. Focus on using your abilities. He's a good skater, sees the ice well, gets up the ice.
We talked today, had a good talk-just pushing a little bit more, getting up into the play, shooting pucks more, being more aggressive in that area of the ice.»

It seems like this was a productive talk and we hope it resonates with Morgan Rielly.
The defenseman has a net rating of -18 this season which is not acceptable for a player of his caliber.
Meanwhile, his offensive production has taken a massive hit as well which should definitely concern fans moving forward.
Rielly has always been a gamer in the postseason so perhaps he will find himself picking up his play as we approach April.
Whatever the case may be, this upcoming road trip is the perfect opportunity for Rielly to turn the tide.
