Craig Berube slams referees following Ryan Suter's dirty play on Mitch Marner
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had himself a difficult night on Saturday as his return to the St. Louis Blues' home barn ended in a loss.
Overall, there was one moment in the game that has had a lot of fans talking. It all has to do with how
Mitch Marner was absolutely drilled by
Ryan Suter at one point in the match. It was a pretty bad moment that resulted in Suter not being penalized.
After the game, Berube made his thoughts very clear on the matter. He was stunned that nothing was given to Suter in terms of punishment. Meanwhile, he defended Matthews and his right to stand up for his teammates.
"Well, that call, I have no problem with Matthews doing what he did. Mitch Marner got drilled at the side of the net. Should have been a penalty. They missed it. So for sure that's a penalty, and they missed it. And he's sticking up for his teammate there. I have no problem with that."
It is crystal clear at this point that the Leafs have a lot of camaraderie. Even when things are not going their way, they do everything in their power to show each other some love.
While they may have lost last night, this kind of trust is something that the team can certainly build upon, moving forward.
