Easton Cowan's NHL Prospect Ranking is Going to Make Toronto Maple Leafs Fans Livid

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan is bringing forth a ton of buzz, although no one knows for sure whether or not he is really going to be impactful.
Easton Cowan was the Toronto Maple Leafs' first-round pick back in 2023, and since that time, there have been some high hopes for the kid, and rightfully so.
The 20-year-old forward had a record-breaking campaign with the London Knights last season, and he was even able to land himself a Memorial Cup.
Now, he is gunning to make the Toronto Maple Leafs roster this season, and there are plenty of people out there who feel like he can do it.
Easton Cowan could make his NHL debut this season
Unfortunately, not everyone is super high on Cowan. For instance, in Scott Wheeler's list of the 100 best prospects right now, Cowan ranked 48th.
As Wheeler explains, he would have been lower, but recent play makes Cowan look like someone who can be solid in a team's top nine.
His play was so strong that it upgraded his projection from an effective third-line contributor to an impactful top-nine player for me.
Wheeler believes Cowan is making less mistakes and overall, is just a safe bet when it comes to a kid who can truly make it to the National Hockey League.
He has learned how to make his game work on a shift-to-shift basis, though, and now makes better choices on his touches than he used to. He looks like a stud prospect now.
While Wheeler might think this ranking is a compliment, some are going to see it as outrageous given what Cowan was able to accomplish this season.
At the end of the day, these rankings are subjective, and we will only truly know Cowan's potential once he steps on the ice in an NHL game.
