Elliotte Friedman Confirms the Toronto Maple Leafs Are on the Verge of Two Buyouts

Free agency is about to begin on July 1st, and the Toronto Maple Leafs will have to make some big decisions about who they want to sign and who they want to let walk.

However, an underrated narrative right now surrounds just how desperate this team is to relinquish some cap space and get guys off the roster.

There were some horrendous performers this season, and many of them are under contract for at least another year. With that in mind, buyouts are not off the table.

In fact, this was confirmed by Elliotte Friedman of '32 Thoughts." On his latest podcast, he noted that the Leafs will be looking to buy out some of their forwards, especially those on the bottom two lines.

The two most obvious options are Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf. Jarnkrok is under contract for another season at $2.1 million while Kampf has another two seasons at $2.4 million.

Jarnkrok has one goal in 30 playoff games, which is absolutely abysmal. Meanwhile, Kampf played one game during the entire postseason.

With that in mind, it is clear that these guys need to be let go. They are not good enough for this roster, and the Maple Leafs could use the cap space.

This might sound harsh, but it is absolutely the truth. This Leafs team is in desperate need of improving the bottom six, and a great way to do that would be by cutting Jarnkrok and Kampf.

General Manager Brad Treliving has some difficult decisions to make, and we cannot wait to see what he is able to come up with.
