Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is a month away from becoming a free agent, and there are numerous teams looking to secure his services for seven years.
Mitch Marner had 102 points last season, and for all intents and purposes, it was the greatest campaign of his NHL career thus far.
Of course, the superstar winger is thinking the exact same thing, and the expectation is that he will be leaving this summer for another franchise.
Who will Mitch Marner sign with in free agency?
There are two Stanley Cup contenders vying for the forward right now. Those two franchises are the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers, who are at the top of Marner's wish list.
However, according to Elliotte Friedman on '32 Thoughts,' a third Stanley Cup contender has entered the Mitch Marner sweepstakes. That team is the Carolina Hurricanes.
Hurricanes still want a superstar this summer, will try again to land Mitch Marner
Infamously, Marner refused to waive his no-trade clause for the Carolina Hurricanes as the Leafs tried to acquire
Mikko Rantanen at the trade deadline.
The Hurricanes have some money to spend, and they would love to get Marner on their roster, at no cost to their current assets.
Overall, free agency is going to be very interesting, and Marner remains the biggest free agent available. That said, he isn't ruling out a return to the Leafs.
Only time will tell what both sides decide when July 1st rolls around in about a month from now.
