Maple Leafs Reporter Demands the Removal of the Florida Panthers from the Atlantic Division

The Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning remain in the Atlantic Division, although, as one Toronto Maple Leafs reporter noted, that is nonsensical.
Just a few weeks ago, the
Toronto Maple Leafs lost to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of their second-round series. It was a disappointing loss that ultimately ended the team's season.
However, in the midst of these playoffs, there has been quite a bit of discourse surrounding the Eastern Conference division alignments and how they don't make much sense.
If you look at the East Coast map of NHL franchises, the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning stick out like a sore thumb when you think about the fact that they are among the Canadian teams.
Florida Panthers and the Atlantic Division
Reporter David Alter is taking things a step further here, urging the NHL to take action and remove the Panthers and Lightning from the Atlantic.
Who should take their place? Well, Alter argues the Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets should take that spot.
I've long hated this alignment. Made sense when Florida and Tampa needed the snowbirds. They don't need them anymore.
Put FLA and TB in the Metro, move Pittsburgh and Columbus to the Atlantic.
This is going to be a hard sell for the NHL, and we highly doubt that they are going to realign the teams anytime soon.
However, you have to appreciate those who want to take risks and change things in a significant way.
Although if you are a Leafs fan, getting rid of the Lightning and the Panthers from the division is a purely selfish endeavor.
Without those two teams hanging around, the seasons would be a lot easier, and the playoff path would also be a lot more palatable.
