Edmonton Oilers forward Kasperi Kapanen is having himself a great season, but for some reason, he can't stop thinking about the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kasperi Kapanen is currently in the midst of a Stanley Cup Finals run with the Edmonton Oilers, and he has a good chance at winning it all.
Of course, as someone playing for a Canadian team, he understands scrutiny from the media and a ton of energy from the fans.
However, Kapanen also got to play for the
Toronto Maple Leafs, which is arguably the toughest market in the NHL. If you can play in Toronto, you can play pretty well anywhere.
Kasperi Kapanen talks Toronto media
Prior to Game 2, Kapanen was asked about his time playing in Toronto, and it led to a very honest answer about the difference between Toronto and Edmonton.
Simply put, the Toronto media does it way bigger than anyone else. At the end of the day, Edmonton can be tough, but nothing is more dramatic than the Toronto media.
Media presence is big [in Toronto] & not always necessarily the best thing, but it does prepare you for the future. Coming to Edmonton, with it being in Canada, I was used to it. But I think you guys in Toronto, it's still on another level.
Overall, it is pretty frustrating to hear all of these players so openly bash the Toronto media and the fans that want to see this team win a cup.
The market is a privilege to play in. There are some cities that couldn't care less about their hockey teams. Toronto is the opposite of that.
As for Kapanen and the Oilers, they lost Game 2 to the Florida Panthers in double overtime. As a result, the series is now tied at one game apiece.
This is going to be a fantastic Stanley Cup Finals, and we cannot wait to see it play out. At this stage, it feels like we are going seven games.
