Ex-Toronto Maple Leafs Forward on the Verge of Signing in the KHL
Ex-Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jimmy Vesey has been falling on hard times as of late, and it seems like he could be forced to take his career overseas.
If you remember, Jimmy Vesey played 30 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2020-21 season before being shipped off to the Vancouver Canucks.
During that time, he only managed seven points, and he wasn't someone that Leafs fans loved or clamored to have back once he went on his way.
Overall, he is a player who has missed out on his potential and has been passed around the league for years. Quite simply, he's been a bust.
Jimmy Vesey could be off to the KHL
Having said that, the forward played for both the New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche last season.
Unfortunately, as a free agent, he has not been able to secure any real traction, and it has forced him to consider his options outside of North America.
For instance, it is now being reported by
RG.org that Vesey is thinking of going to the KHL.
NHL forward Jimmy Vesey may continue his career in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). According to RG sources, the 32-year-old is exploring the possibility of leaving the NHL to sign with a KHL club.
The frontrunner for Vesey's signature is SKA St. Petersburg. Other interested teams include Ak Bars Kazan, Dinamo Minsk, and the Chinese club Kunlun Red Star.
Ultimately, this might be the best decision for the forward given all of the trouble he has gone through over the past few years.
If the NHL production isn't working, then going overseas might just be what is necessary to revitalize his career.
While there is no done deal just yet, it would not be a surprise to see another former Leaf head to Russia.
