Former NHL defenseman Jason Demers had some interesting insight on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the crowd issue that was brought up by Auston Matthews.
Just a few days ago, Auston Matthews got on the Toronto Maple Leafs fans at Scotiabank Arena who refused to cheer after a fight from Ryan Reaves.
Some felt like the criticism was unwarranted, although there have been real concerns about the Leafs' dismal crowd noise over the years.
Jason Demers knows how to fix the Toronto Maple Leafs crowd
In fact, former NHL defenseman Jason Demers agrees with the Toronto Maple Leafs captain.
In a recent interview, he noted how the lower bowl is completely inundated with corporate suits who have no interest in being loud.
Consequently, Demers believes the best course of action would be to simply bring some of the fans down from the nosebleeds.
«I can't stand the lower bowl in Toronto. It's corporate, quiet, and lacks any real energy, despite the team being good for years.
Sure, they haven't performed in the playoffs, but something needs to change. Last year, Ilya Samsonov had a huge game after being called back up from the AHL, earned a shutout, and got no cheers. Nobody seemed to care.

Overall, it is very unlikely that the team would ever do this as it would mean losing a lot of money.
However, Matthews should consider a conversation with the front office of the Leafs to figure out a way to get the fans more involved.
At the end of the day, there are passionate Leafs fans, they just can't afford to go to the games.
It is a sad reality of ticket prices these days and we hope that somehow this can change in the future.
