Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle was beloved by the fanbase, and when Cam Janssen hit him, some fans didn't know how to handle it.
Cam Janssen was an enforcer who certainly made his presence felt in the NHL, whether that be with the New Jersey Devils or the St. Louis Blues.
Of course, Toronto Maple Leafs fans remember Janssen for his infamous hit on Tomas Kaberle all the way back in 2007.
This hit all but forced the Leafs out of the playoffs, as they went 4-4-1 in the nine games where Kaberle was out of the team's lineup.
Cam Janssen talks Tomas Kaberle hit
While speaking to 'Blues Central,' Janssen revealed that Toronto Maple Leafs fans were not kind to him after the hit.
As he explains, the fanbase was sending him death threats, and they wouldn't stop.
We're playing the Toronto Maple Leafs and I hit Tomas Kaberle late. I crush him, he's knocked out, and the whole game stops. Toronto, they're losing their mind on me, like they want to k*ll me, they want my family de*d, they want my mother, father, relatives, de*d. They want my house to burn down, my dog to d*e, I heard it all, letters, everything.
The enforcer went on to say that when he played the Leafs again two weeks later, the fans continued to be vitriolic.
Two weeks later we have to go to Toronto to play them, and I'm getting all these d*ath threats, they have to change my hotel room... So I go out for the game and Wade Belak comes to me and we go for 2.5 minutes, it was a great fight, good gladiator kind of fight, and it showed everyone in the league that if you do something like that, you got to pay the piper, and I did.
Overall, this is another example of how overly passionate Leafs fans can be sometimes.
Hopefully, the new generation of fans understands that this kind of vitriol is unacceptable.
