Former Toronto Maple Leafs Player Rips the Fanbase for their Treatment of Mitch Marner

Ex-Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Matt Martin had some interesting comments recently about Mitch Marner, the Leafs fanbase, and his treatment over the past few years.
Mitch Marner is now a member of the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and in the eyes of some Maple Leafs fans, this is the ultimate betrayal.
Overall, it is easy to see why fans would feel this way about Marner. He never had much playoff success, and there is a sense that he never really put in the effort to be truly great.

For example, former Maple Leafs enforcer Matt Martin was on the 'Cam & Strick Podcast' where he spoke at length about Marner.
It was here that he said that the superstar winger was a hard worker and that he gave everything he had to the Leafs organization. Simply, he believes Leafs fans were exceptionally hard on him, and it was undeserved.
Ultimately, I think he poured his heart into that thing, I do believe that, I think he really wore it when he took a lot of criticism when they didn't get the job done... I think he cares greatly about the team and the game. I think it's hard on him that they didn't get it done and the amount of criticism he took on that and I think they exhausted that whole set-up... but I know he loved the Leafs, loved playing for the Leafs, and he really wanted to get the job done.
If anyone knows Marner best, it would be his former teammates. Even Matthew Knies was complimentary of Marner recently, which goes to show that the forward is still well-respected in Leafs circles.
Regardless, there is a large contingency of Maple Leafs fans who are none-too-pleased about what is going on right now.
The franchise is still trying to replace the forward, and it's going to take a while before they get their superstar.
Ultimately, the Maple Leafs are going to be a bit weaker next season, while Marner will be fighting for a Stanley Cup.
