Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies was recently asked about the Mitch Marner trade and what he thinks of the superstar following his Leafs departure.

Matthew Knies was one of the cornerstones of the Toronto Maple Leafs' first line last season, https://www.torontoleafsinsider.com/nhl-team/toronto-maple-leafs/maple-leafs-forward-matthew-knies-reveals-what-it-really-like-playing-in-toronto
Overall, he made a huge impact, scoring 29 goals and adding another 29 assists. Although heading into next season, he will not have Mitch Marner by his side.
Instead, Marner will be playing for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, which is going to make things awkward for everyone involved.

Matthew Knies talks Mitch Marner

While speaking to the Daily Faceoff, Matthew Knies was honest about the Marner situation, noting that he doesn't see it as a rivalry going forward.
In fact, the forward was very complimentary about his former teammate.
I don't know if it's going to be a rivalry. I love the guy. He did a lot for me in his two years here. He made me so comfortable, made me a better player, better person. I don't think it's a rivalry. You know, obviously, I want to beat him, but I think it's just business as usual.

As for the upcoming match between the Leafs and Knights coming up on January 23rd, Knies is simply looking forward to reconnecting with his former teammate.
I think maybe off the ice it'll be nice to chat with him and get to say hi. I haven't seen him in quite a bit with the summer now, and obviously we're not going to be on the same team during the year.

Just getting to chat with him a little bit would be cool.

Knies is a good guy, and that is never going to change. It's hard to imagine him saying anything bad about anyone.
Needless to say, don't expect Knies to be going after Marner when they get matched up against one another.
