New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton has reportedly been on the trading block, and the Toronto Maple Leafs were supposedly one of the top trade candidates.
Dougie Hamilton is a defenseman who has had some up-and-down moments throughout his time in the NHL, although he remains someone who has a ton of value.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were one of the many teams that had him on their radar, and more and more reports were suggesting that there were legs here.
Is Dougie Hamilton coming to the Toronto Maple Leafs?
However, a new report from Frank Seravalli is pouring cold water all over the idea that Hamilton is going anywhere.
He explains the cap hit for Hamilton is too much and while they did explore options, for now, they will keep him on the roster.
I think they kind of had a flirtation at some point this summer with moving Dougie Hamilton; at some point that cap number is a little out of whack...with that probably had explored some different opportunities
Hamilton is a very good player, and there is absolutely no doubt about that. The Maple Leafs would certainly love to have him on the team.
At the same time, it makes sense that they wouldn't make the trade, as they simply do not have the necessary cap space.
Going into this season, the New Jersey Devils are hoping to bounce back from being riddled with injuries.
