Frank Seravalli reveals Auston Matthews' likely return date
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been out for a while with an upper-body injury that has proven to be a bit of an anomaly.
He has been out for three weeks at this point, and has missed a total of seven games.
However, during that stretch, the Maple Leafs have continued to play great hockey and boast a record of 12-6-2 while winning six of their last seven.
Overall, this treatment has been going well, and now, reporter Frank Seravalli has the scoop on when Matthews will be able to come back.
Frank Seravalli on Auston Matthews
Matthews will not be in the lineup on Sunday, however, it is believed that he will be officially back as of next Wednesday. That means in five days, he will be ready to go.
"He's actually still in Munich, Germany getting treatment on this injury. He's scheduled to return to North America in the next 24 hours. The Toronto Maple Leafs believe he's made significant progress over the course of this week in treating the injury. They're hopeful that when he comes back this will be completely in his rearview mirror and when is that? All signals point to Auston Matthews returning to the Leafs' lineup on Wednesday."
Seravalli also made it clear that Matthews will be 100 percent healed when he does return.
This will be music to the ears of Maple Leafs fans everywhere. It essentially means that Matthews is going to be his usual self and his production could reflect that.
He struggled a bit before being taken out of the lineup, so fans will be interested to see him on a new level.
Hopefully, this report remains true and we get to see Matthews back sooner rather than later.
