Darren Dreger has been delivering major updates about free agency, and recently, he came out with a huge update on Brad Marchand and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Brad Marchand is going to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, and there is no telling whether or not the Florida Panthers will be able to keep him.
Unsurprisingly, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to swoop in and take the superstar forward for themselves. After years of playoff losses to Marchand, this would be a good time to turn the page.
However, there are going to be various other teams looking to acquire the forward, and the Leafs are going to have to be smart, or they could end up losing it all.
Brad Marchand and the Toronto Maple Leafs
Recently, Darren Dreger spoke on the 'Ray and Dregs' podcast about the Marchand situation, and why he would be the perfect fit for the Leafs.
In his mind, the Leafs are near the top of Marchand's list, mainly because of head coach Craig Berube, and the style of play he gets his teams to enact.
Can you envision Marchand in a Leafs uniform? Because I can, and I know that the interest that the Leafs have is significant, and I think that Marchand likes the idea of playing for Craig Berube IF it doesn't play out in Florida
Acquiring Brad Marchand after extending guys like John Tavares and Matthew Knies would certainly be the perfect way to start free agency.
However, general manager Brad Treliving still has to get to work. Nothing is going to come easy, and the Leafs will have to bring their A-game to all negotiations.
Over the course of the coming days, things are going to get very interesting, and the fans are going to be anxious for all of the action.
Let's just hope all of this goes according to plan, and the Leafs don't end up having a disastrous Summer full of disappointment.
