John Tavares Addresses Mitch Marner After Signing Four-Year Extension with the Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs and John Tavares inked a new deal this afternoon that will keep the former captain with the team for at least four more seasons.
John Tavares gave the Toronto Maple Leafs an incredible gift today as he decided to sign a contract extension worth $17.5 million over the course of four seasons.
This is an incredible discount for the Leafs, and it will also allow Tavares to spend the rest of his day with his hometown team. Overall, it was a huge victory.
But now, the Leafs must look ahead to July 1st, where they will potentially meet with Mitch Marner to see if there is any way he can stay with the franchise.

During a press conference today, Tavares spoke on his new deal and why it feels so good to have gotten it done and over with.
I get to do what I love, what I've been doing since I was a kid. And even though I obviously left some money out there, I've done pretty well. I'm still doing pretty well.
Subsequently, he spoke about the Mitch Marner topic, and whether or not he wants to see the forward back with the Leafs. Ultimately, Tavares didn't hold back.
You always hold out hope that a person and a player like Mitch ends up staying, but you're also realistic of the situation and what potentially could happen. If he does move on, wish him the best. But you always hold hope that it works out.
Leafs fans are holding out some hope that Marner returns. Perhaps Tavares' benevolence will inspire Mitch to return at a cheaper price.
However, we doubt this actually happens. Instead, we imagine he will go elsewhere, to a team like the Las Vegas Golden Knights, or maybe even the Los Angeles Kings.
If you are a fan in Toronto, you are just happy that Tavares is now done, and the whole Leafs Nation can focus on other things.
