Mitch Marner Signing with the Las Vegas Golden Knights: Elliotte Friedman Has an Update

Mitch Marnerand the Las Vegas Golden Knights have been linked to one another ever since the end of the postseason, when the Leafs were eliminated by the Florida Panthers.

Overall, these two would make a great partnership, even if Leafs fans would hate to see it happen. Having said that, a deal cannot be negotiated until July 1st.

As we previously reported, Marner and his wife were supposedly spotted in Vegas, shopping for homes. Consequently, the Golden Knights connections have only grown stronger.

One analyst who has really been driving home the Vegas-Marner speculation is none other than Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Of anyone on this beat, he is the most tapped in.

During an appearance on Sportsnet 590, he confirmed to fans that the Golden Knights are the most likely team to sign the superstar winger. While that can change, his evidence suggests that Mitch is going out West.

You cannot blame the guy for making a decision like this. At the end of the day, he wants to get away from the public eye, and Vegas lets him do that.

Furthermore, they seem willing to offer him a massive contract, and that should certainly create a bidding war. Although if Vegas sets the standard, some teams may not go all the way in.

Free agency is in four days from now, and there is no telling what is going to happen next. For Leafs fans, this is going to be a time of pure anxiety, and we don't envy some of you.

Tonight, the Leafs will be focused on the NHL Draft and whether or not there are any good trades to explore. For now, the Leafs would like to make some moves, but liking and doing are two different things.
