Leafs GM Brad Treliving Reveals Big Trades Could be Coming on Draft Night

Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving just revealed some very interesting information about the NHL Entry Draft that will get fans pretty excited.
Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs have it rough on Friday night as they will not be picking in the first round of the NHL Draft. They gave away their pick to the Boston Bruins this past season in the Brandon Carlo trade.
In fact, the Leafs will only get their first pick of the draft at the end of the second round. They are selecting 64th overall, and that doesn't inspire much confidence.
However, fans are hopeful that Treliving has something up his sleeve and that he is planning some kind of heist on an unsuspecting team and their General Manager.
Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft
While speaking to Luke Fox of Sportsnet today, Treliving made some very interesting comments about what he plans to do next with the Leafs and whether or not they will be aggressive.
Essentially, they want to move down and potentially make trades with other teams. This pretty well confirms the idea that Treliving is going to be trigger-happy with the trade calls this weekend.
The (scouts) are well positioned here looking at move-down scenarios potentially more than move-up.
Of course, Leafs fans should probably temper their expectations here. At the end of the day, you cannot expect Treliving to work all kinds of miracles.
However, it is good to see that the Leafs are thinking big and actually have a strategy in mind going into the draft. This weekend will prove to be fascinating.
Next week will be even more interesting as the Maple Leafs seek to sign big-name free agents on July 1st. Needless to say, Brad Treliving has a lot on his plate.
Overall, Leafs fans are just going to have to white knuckle it going forward, and hope and pray that things go just how they want them to.
