With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to make some improvements throughout the offseason, it would appear as though a trade with the Buffalo Sabres is possible.
This Leafs team is desperate for a puck-moving defenseman who can set up goals, score goals, and even play some shutdown defense when they need it.
A defenseman just like that is currently on the trade market, and he just so happens to be
Bowen Byram of the Buffalo Sabres.
Bowen Byram to the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Byram had 38 points last season, and he was +11 on a team that didn't even sniff the playoffs. He has a bright future ahead of him, especially since he is only 24 years old.
According to Darren Dreger, the Maple Leafs are one of eight teams that are currently interested in trading for the young D-man. Unfortunately, it is going to cost them.
Teams interested in Bowen Byram includes Vegas, LA, St. Louis, Vancouver, Colorado, Philadelphia, Toronto
There is some speculation that the Leafs would have to trade away
Morgan Rielly in order to make this work. Although, Byram for Rielly is something Leafs fans would do in a heartbeat these days.
He is only going to get better, and in the immediate future, the Leafs could use some youth, especially over on the blue line, which is filled with older guys.
If Brad Treliving could pull off a Byram trade, then there are going to be a lot of excited fans out there. However, it will take some creative thinking.
With the NHL Draft coming up tomorrow, perhaps we will see a big move from the Leafs. If not, there is still plenty of time to get things done.
