The trade was certainly an unfortunate one for former captain John Tavares and his entire family.
Minten lived with the Tavares family when he first made it to Toronto and his kids were big fans. So much so that the forward doesn't have the heart to tell his kids what's going on.
"Haven't told them yet. We'll get there. I'm just happy to get home & see them. Usually when I call home, they're not too interested too long"
Matthew Knies also weighed in on the Fraser Minten trade, noting that he liked the kid and believes he will be a solid NHL player.
"I was a little upset. He was a younger guy, got to know him pretty well. I'm excited for him that he has an opportunity to play & I think he will have a good chance there to play in the NHL. But it's really sad to see him go."
At the end of the day, trades are going to happen and while Minten was a beloved player on this team, it remains to be seen what will happen next.
The Boston Bruins are in the midst of a retool and one has to wonder if the forward will get more opportunities to play at the NHL level.
It was either him or Easton Cowan, and in our estimation, the Maple Leafs chose correctly here.
