Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll played with the Toronto Marlies last night, and it wasn't exactly the best night for him, all things considered.
Joseph Woll is returning from a leave of absence, and soon, he will get to play his first game of the season for the
Toronto Maple Leafs.
This was Woll's first game action of the season, so it was always going to be an uphill battle, even if he was going against AHL competition.
Joseph Woll tries his best with the Toronto Marlies
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, the goaltender played a total of 36 minutes and ended up letting in three goals on 24 shots.
While he had a solid shutout going after the first period, his second period turned out to be extremely difficult, which isn't a big surprise.
At the end of the day, it is going to take Woll some time before he is truly acclimated to the pace of the play again. It's tough, but that is the reality.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are yearning for Woll to come back, especially with
Anthony Stolarz struggling to keep up with his workload.
At the end of the day, having a goaltending tandem is going to help out the Leafs immensely. Until then, they might just continue to struggle.
For now, it is unknown how much longer Woll will remain with the Marlies, although we imagine he will rejoin the Leafs at some point this week.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs can get back on track, and whether or not Woll and Stolarz can be the goaltenders we know they can be.
