Former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock is a fairly controversial figure in NHL circles, but you won't hear Kyle Dubas say anything bad about the guy.
Mike Babcock is easily one of the most polarizing figures in the recent history of the Mike Babcock, given what he put some of the players through.
Everyone remembers the Mitch Marner situation and how the forward was forced to single out his teammates, including none other than Nazem Kadri.
While speaking to the Cam & Strick Podcast, Dubas made it clear that Babcock deserves a lot of credit for the early success of the Core Four.
He feels as though he helped usher in a new era of work ethic and accountability that served the young players especially well.
He came in at 2015, and at that point we were just a year into a rebuild, and the reason why the team was able to get into the playoffs in 2017 and then stay there, and maybe people don't want to give the credit to him, but he brought in a tremendous amount of accountability, details, and work ethic.
One could argue about the merits of this argument, especially when you consider how the Maple Leafs were unable to win anything under Babcock.
The playoff success was not there, and for the most part, some felt as though Babcock set the tone for the playoff failures that would eventually follow.
Whatever the case may be, the Leafs fanbase is a whole lot happier with Craig Berube, who has been a breath of fresh air for this team.
