Leafs head coach Craig Berube compared to Mike Babcock in the worst way possible

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has been struggling to start the season, as his team looks disengaged, and the defense has gone ghostly.
Craig Berube had a phenomenal season with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2024-25. The team won the Atlantic Division, and they were just one win away from the Eastern Conference Finals.
Going into this season, everyone knew it would be difficult for the Maple Leafs without the likes of Mitch Marner on the roster. However, the expectations were still high.
Unfortunately, the team has not been good to start the season. The Leafs currently have a record of 8-8-1 and find themselves buried deep in the Atlantic Division standings, in 7th place.
There are some already calling for his firing, and it remains to be seen whether or not the Leafs can make the comeback fans have been hoping for.
Craig Berube has uncomfortable parallels to Mike Babcock
Having said that, a new post from Dom Luszczyszyn unveils some inconvenient parallels between the likes of Mike Babcock and Craig Berube.
As you can see below, when Babcock was fired at the start of the 2019-2020 season, there were some concerning statistics in all categories. Unfortunately, Berube's Leafs are worse in some instances.
Some fans have claimed that the lack of effort from the team is reminiscent of what we saw from the Leafs when Babcock was fired all those years ago.
However, some feel as though it is completely unfair to bestow that level of shame upon Berube, as the Leafs simply aren't that bad. At least, not yet.
With that in mind, it does feel as though some sort of reset is going to be needed for the Toronto Maple Leafs moving forward. Otherwise, this team is in trouble.
Seventh in the Atlantic Division is awful, and if they don't turn things around soon, the rest of the division will leave them behind.
