Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube is in his first season with the team and he has been forced to navigate the harsh media landscape the city is known for.
Craig Berube was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs to usher in a brand of winning hockey that can get you some success in the playoffs, something the team has lacked over the last decade.
During this interview, the coach was asked about his first season with the team and what he thinks of the franchise so far.
"For me, it's been great. I've loved every minute of it. First, working in the organization with the people I work with -- Brad, Shannie, and all the guys -- everyone in the organization has been great."
Berube went on to praise his coaching staff and everything in between. He even had some rare praise of the Toronto media, which is not something you hear every day.
"The whole staff I get to work with -- the coaching staff, the training staff, everyone I interact with daily -- is great. I really enjoy them, and the players. This team was a breath of fresh air for me, coming in and seeing how hard they work and compete every day. Their preparation is first-class, in my opinion.
Just overall, Toronto itself -- the fans, the media, everything -- has been awesome for me. I've really enjoyed it."
Berube is ingratiating himself within the culture of the Toronto Maple Leafs and you have to appreciate that as a fan and as a member of the media.
It is going to be an interesting final stretch of the season, and as it stands, the Leafs seem like a team that can go very far.
They are first in the Atlantic Division and continue to showcase a version of themselves that has not been seen in years.
