The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to make big moves at the NHL trade deadline, however, one of the players they are targeting has just hit a major roadblock.
Are the Toronto Maple Leafs making any trade deadline moves?
He is someone who can score goals, make plays, and even throw his body around and get in fights when he needs to.
However, if Treliving was serious about trading for
Frederic, he might want to rethink those plans.
We say this because today, it was revealed that the center is dealing with a lower-body injury and is now considered week-to-week.
Trent Frederic is considered "week to week" after leaving Tuesday's #bruins game with a lower-body injury, but the sense is that it won't change any plans ahead of the trade deadline.
The pending UFA could still be moved.
While teams can still trade for him, it remains clear that doing so would be a risk. There are only 24 games left in the regular season and the Leafs would want a new player to come in right away and integrate with Craig Berube's system prior to the playoffs.
Moreover, Frederic is an unrestricted free agent which would make him a rental and that's not ideal if you want to keep the team together long-term.
Either way, Frederic remains an option and due to his injury the Leafs might be able to nab him at a discount along with another center. It's a dream scenario but stranger things have happened.
