Earlier today, the Toronto Maple Leafs placed Cayden Primeau on waivers as goaltender Joseph Woll readies his return to the Leafs lineup.
The Leafs are playing the Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes in back-to-back games.
Anthony Stolarz will get the start in one of those games, and someone else will play the other.
However, if Primeau is going back to the Toronto Marlies, the Leafs must call up someone else. That is where
Dennis Hildeby comes into play.
Hildeby has been waiting in the wings in the AHL, and he has yet to get a start in the NHL this season. However, it seems like the right time to let him play.
The Hurricanes are the better team, so perhaps the Leafs will let him play on Saturday night against the Boston Bruins.
Whatever the Maple Leafs decide here, it is going to be very interesting and should spark up a ton of debates about what the right thing to do is.
The Leafs have won three games in a row, and Anthony Stolarz has been a huge reason the Leafs have been able to get those wins.
For Hildeby, this will be an audition for future injuries. If he plays well, then the Leafs will be able to trust him going forward, which is huge.
Only time will tell how the Maple Leafs goaltending situation plays out going forward.
