Maple Leafs Rookie Easton Cowan Reacts to Being Benched for the First Time
Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Easton Cowan is trying to put his best foot forward, and while Craig Berube likes him, he is not without some mistakes.
Despite starting the game on the first line, many noticed that rookie
Easton Cowan was benched late in the game by head coach, Craig Berube.
The rookie still has a lot to learn, and in those high-intensity moments, Cowan isn't going to always have the tools to properly deal with the pressure.
Craig Berube has since commented on the move, noting that it is nothing personal against the kid, and that he just needed some different energy on the ice.
Easton Cowan navigates the NHL
Mark Masters of TSN got to speak to Easton Cowan about what went down, and once again, he didn't seem to be phased by any of it.
Instead, he was understanding of his coach's decision, and was even critical of himself, noting that he could be a whole lot better.
I know I can be better than that
This kind of attitude is going to make Easton Cowan an extremely successful player going forward. He is accountable, and wants to improve.
Of course, there is still a lot that he needs to learn, and it is not going to come overnight. But the Leafs are being patient, and it's nice to see.
Right now, Cowan is on the ice against the Seattle Kraken, and he is still looking for that first career NHL goal.
