Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies was upset after the team's loss to the Florida Panthers and it led to some very interesting comments that will hit hard.
Matthew Knies and the Toronto Maple Leafs did not have their best showing of the season last night as the team lost to the Florida Panthers by a score of 3-1.
It was one of those games that you just wish you could get back, and it had some big implications for the Atlantic Division as the Leafs only lead the Tampa Bay Lightning by two points.
Matthew Knies gets honest about the Toronto Maple Leafs
After the game, Knies was one of the players who spoke to the media and he had some very harsh comments for his teammates that many are taking notice of.
Simply put, he felt like the team did not show up to play and that they were sloppy all over the ice, but particularly on the forecheck.
"Our forecheck wasn't good enough. We were a little sloppy in that sense. We let them break out a little bit too easily. I think we didn't get enough shots to their net or make it hard enough on them in front of their net. That was the difference. We tried to push back, but I think we didn't do do a good enough job. I think our physicality... I think we were a little bit soft in some areas."
Tonight, the Maple Leafs are back in action against the Tampa Bay Lightning which is a game that they absolutely need to win.
Many fans felt like losing to Florida and beating Tampa Bay would be the best course of action. This would allow the Panthers to get ahead of Ottawa while also maintaining a lead on Tampa.
Whether or not that actually comes to fruition tonight, remains to be seen. All we do know is that the fans want something to cheer about.
The Atlantic Division is on the line and the expectation is a win, even if it hasn't happened in 20 years.
