Max Domi is gearing up for a fresh season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he is expected to be on the first line, although a new forward may have taken that role.
Last season,
Max Domi struggled to really get his feet off the ground. He was not comfortable at center, and it was becoming clear that he would be best served playing the wing.
On Tuesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs played the Ottawa Senators in what turned out to be a 3-2 overtime loss. However, we got to see Matias Maccelli's debut, as he played on the aforementioned first line.
Throughout the game, Maccelli was a beast as he threw his body around, blocked some shots, and even managed to get two assists.
Furthermore, Maccelli had what could have been the highlight of the entire game when he delivered a behind-the-back pass to Auston Matthews.
It was the type of performance that got Maple Leafs fans hyped, with some thinking that he should be on the first line to start the season.
It seems likelier than not that Domi will, indeed, be on the first line to start the season. Unfortunately for him, Maccelli will be breathing down his neck.
This kind of healthy competition is good for a team, and it just goes to show that the Leafs have some solid depth that they can rely on going forward.
