Max Domi May Have Just Had His Job Stolen by the Toronto Maple Leafs' Shiny New Forward

Last season, Max Domi struggled to really get his feet off the ground. He was not comfortable at center, and it was becoming clear that he would be best served playing the wing.

In the offseason, the Maple Leafs went out and got a third-line center in the form of Nicolas Roy. Consequently, it was thought that Max Domi would take Mitch Marner's spot on the first line, next to Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.

Head coach Craig Berube has confirmed his intentions for Domi, although it appears as though he may have already lost his job.

On Tuesday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs played the Ottawa Senators in what turned out to be a 3-2 overtime loss. However, we got to see Matias Maccelli's debut, as he played on the aforementioned first line.

Throughout the game, Maccelli was a beast as he threw his body around, blocked some shots, and even managed to get two assists.

Furthermore, Maccelli had what could have been the highlight of the entire game when he delivered a behind-the-back pass to Auston Matthews.

It was the type of performance that got Maple Leafs fans hyped, with some thinking that he should be on the first line to start the season.

This is unfortunate for Max Domi, who missed last night's game due to a personal matter following the death of his grandfather.

It seems likelier than not that Domi will, indeed, be on the first line to start the season. Unfortunately for him, Maccelli will be breathing down his neck.

This kind of healthy competition is good for a team, and it just goes to show that the Leafs have some solid depth that they can rely on going forward.
