Toronto Maple Leafs forward Max Domi is fighting for a spot on the team's first line, although an injury has forced head coach Craig Berube into a tough decision.

Going into this season, it was stated that Max Domi would be playing on the first line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
Overall, this would be the perfect opportunity for the forward, given the fact that he had a disappointing season in 2024-25 while playing on the third line as a center.
Unfortunately, the season hasn't even started yet, and Domi is suffering the same fate as last year, as today at practice, he was centering the third line.

Max Domi demoted to the third line

Mattias Maccelli took his spot on the first line, while the third line consisted of Max Domi, Dakota Joshua, and David Kampf.
Of course, with Scott Laughton injured, the Maple Leafs need to exploit their center depth. This is why Nicolas Roy found himself on the fourth line.
Ultimately, it is a tough fate, but once Laughton comes back, we imagine Domi will be able to get back on the first line.
Knies - Matthews - Maccelli
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Joshua - Domi - Kampf
Lorentz - Roy - Groulx

McCabe - Tanev
Rielly - Carlo
Ekman-Larsson - Danford
Smith - Villeneuve

Peksa

Domi is someone who has 70-point potential, but he needs to start really applying himself in order to finally get there.
The forward has been refusing to shoot the puck, which has led to his struggles.
Only time will tell whether or not he can get himself back to an acceptable level that will give the Leafs every reason to promote him.
