Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is shrouded in mystery right now, and with free agency on the horizon, there has been lots of information leaking out.
Mitch Marner is easily the biggest storyline in free agency right now, and for good reason. He is about to command a monstrous contract, and opposing teams want to feel like they are in on him.
Meanwhile, Toronto Maple Leafs fans have tried to hold out hope for his return, but it seems pretty clear right now that he is not going to stick around with the team for much longer.
Numerous reporters have suggested that he is gone, and that the Leafs would have to offer $15 million per season for the forward to even consider sticking around.
Is Mitch Marner returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs?
During the latest episode of '32 Thoughts' with Elliotte Friedman, the Sportsnet insider offered some fascinating information on the race for Marner and what is currently going on behind closed doors.
As it turns out, there is some information being leaked to reporters, and it is coming straight from the mouths of Marner's teammates.
These teammates have suggested that Marner will be going to the Western Conference, and that the Los Angeles Kings, as well as the Las Vegas Golden Knights, are the most probably places.
Some teammates quietly believe he plans to head west, with LA and Vegas seen as possible destinations. All signs point to him testing the market on July 1, picking a team, signing a deal, and leaving Toronto.
At this point, there is no sense in trying to predict what Mitch Marner is going to do next. He is a private guy, and we will know what he wants to do when he is ready to reveal that.
Until then, fans are going to just have to continue guessing what's next. For Leafs fans, this is absolutely torturous.
In many ways, it is very sad that this is how the Marner saga will come to an end.
