Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner will be returning to the Scotiabank Arena on January 23rd, but it appears as though there is some controversy at play.
Mitch Marner abandoned the Toronto Maple Leafs for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and for months now, fans have been fantasizing about their revenge.
This has led to a lot of anticipation of the Leafs' schedule reveal, which is where we would get to see when the Leafs play the Golden Knights in Toronto for the first time.
Today, it was revealed that the Leafs would be in Vegas on January 15th. However, on January 23rd, the Golden Knights would be in town at the Scotiabank Arena.

Fans will be prepared to boo Marner as much as humanly possible. Although they won't be able to go all out.
Because of a game the night before against the Boston Bruins, there is a realistic scenario in which Marner won't have any media availability throughout the process.

This is already creating some controversy, as some fans believe this was done as a means of protecting Marner from the fans.
Of course, this would require a lot of coordination from the NHL, but the fans in Toronto are passionate, so these theories are not a surprise.
Having said that, it is going to be interesting to see how this all shapes up in the coming weeks and months. We can't wait to see which team is better.
If the Leafs somehow come away with the better season, some fans will be feeling pretty vindicated and for good reason.
