NHL Insider Claims Sam Bennett Will Play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, But For a Ridiculous Price

Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett could potentially explore free agency, and there is no doubt that the Toronto Maple Leafs would love to have him on their team.
Sam Bennett is going to be one of the most sought-after free agents this summer. However, there have been conflicting reports on what his plans are.
For instance, some reporters have claimed that Bennett is not going to make it to free agency. Instead, the Florida Panthers are going to sign him to an astronomical deal.
Having said that, there is at least one reporter who sees Bennett coming to the Toronto Maple Leafs, albeit at an insane price.
How much does Sam Bennett want in free agency?
John Shannon was on "Sekeres and Price" where he noted that Bennett will likely either play for the Maple Leafs or the Panthers next season.
However, if the Leafs want any shot of getting a guy like Bennett, it will probably cost them upwards of $10 million per season, which is ridiculous.
Don't waste your time, he's going to play in one two places, he's going to play in Toronto or he's going to play in Sunrise, Florida, that's it. That's his decision, he's not going to market the way other free agents market, he will go and play for the Panthers or the Maple Leafs, we just don't know which one yet.
Bennett is fresh off the first 50-point season of his career. At 28 years old, this doesn't exactly scream offensive juggernaut.
Of course, his impact on the ice goes well beyond just racking up points. However, it is easy to see why some fans would be concerned about paying a guy like this eight figures per season.
Only time will tell what happens with Bennett. Based on how well the Panthers are doing this season, it is hard to imagine him not running it back.
After all, the franchise has seemingly made it quite clear that they would love to have their Center back.
