Toronto Maple Leafs Hit With Double Dose of Bad News Involving Sam Bennett

Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett is someone who the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in for free agency, however, there is some bad news to share on that front.
Sam Bennett had 25 goals and 51 points in 76 games this season with the Florida Panthers. In the postseason, he has 14 points in 16 games, and he has his team on the edge of a Stanley Cup Finals appearance.
This summer, the forward is in the market for a new contract, and there has been a lot of talk about him exploring free agency.
In fact, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been floated as a team that could potentially attract the center, once the summer rolls around.
Will Sam Bennett hit free agency?
However, according to a new report from Elliotte Friedman, that is very unlikely. Instead, the Panthers are very motivated to get a deal out of the way early.
Carter Verhaeghe's at 8x7, that's where they want to get Sam Bennett, and I think he wants to stay.
Meanwhile, Chris Johnston is saying the same thing, noting that very few insiders believe Bennett will even be available as of July 1st.
I'm not convinced Sam Bennett will get to free agency.
There are other players for the Maple Leafs to pursue. Besides, Bennett would have been so in demand that he likely would have been un-signable.
Either way, the Maple Leafs do have a lot to stress about this offseason. Whether it be Mitch Marner, John Tavares, or Matthew Knies, they do have deals to sign.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs can get better or worse this summer. Fans are worried that it will be the latter.
However, this is a good opportunity for general manager Brad Treliving to get creative and try something new and groundbreaking.
