Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner and his agent Darren Ferris are looking for a record-setting deal, but they are very unlikely to get one at this point.
Mitch Marner is likely to test free agency, and if he does just that, there are reports that some teams might just offer him $13.5 million per season.
How much will Mitch Marner make in Free Agency?
Interestingly enough, NHL analyst and avid superfan Paul Bissonnette doesn't believe Marner is worth that kind of money.
Instead, he took to X today with a proposal for Leafs general manager Brad Treliving. Essentially, he believes the Leafs should sign Marner for eight years at $12 million per.
Offer Marner 8x12m and let's run it back. He owes Leafs Nation a «discount».
Knies 8x8.5m max if he wants an offer sheet tell him to f*ck off.
John Tavares 3x3m.
The analyst also wants to give
Matthew Knies $8.5 million over the span of eight seasons, while John Tavares gets $3 million for three years. Quite frankly, that Tavares number is a ridiculous underpay.
At the end of the day, Bissonnette's proposal is one that was constructed in Lala Land. There is no world in which any of these numbers happen.
If the Leafs want to keep Mitch Marner, the price might just have to be $14 million per season, and that is to be competitive with other teams.
Although at this point, it seems obvious that everyone involved would benefit from a change of scenery. We just hope Biz is prepared for the day Mitch eventually does, in fact, walk away.
