The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators are set to face off in the first round of the NHL playoffs and the ticket sales are already a bloodbath.
Of course, tickets in Toronto are going to cost you an arm and a leg and it is going to be tough to secure anything, even if you are rich.
Meanwhile, the Senators have been plagued by their arenas being overrun by Maple Leafs fans for years. In the playoffs, that won't be acceptable.
Ottawa Senators protective over ticket sales
In fact, a fan on Twitter revealed that the Senators are currently going through drastic measures to ensure the arena is full of Sens fans.
Essentially, if you buy the season ticket package that includes playoff tickets, you get hit with a request for proof of residency. Simply put, nobody from Toronto can get these lucrative packages.
I just bought a ST package to ensure playoff tix. The rep had me send him proof of residency in Ottawa (utility bill) before he made the STH sale bc my cell has a Toronto area code. They were instructed to ensure people weren't Leafs fans trying to buy Sens ST to get playoff tix
This is going to go a long way in making sure there is sea of red in the building as opposed to sea of blue.
In the playoffs, home ice is everything and you don't want to be run out of your own building by the opposite team's fans. Regardless, there will be some Leafs fans in the building.
If one thing is certain, this series is going to be a lot of fun and trash talk between fans is going to be absolutely epic.
We cannot wait to see this kick off on Sunday. Hopefully, it all lives up to the hype. We've been wanting this for over 20 years now.
