Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice spoke about the Toronto Maple Leafs after Game 6, and it led to some comments that are too ridiculous not to share.
Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs went into Game 6 against the Florida Panthers needing a win. That is exactly what they got with a 2-0 victory in Florida.
Just a couple of nights earlier, the Leafs had their worst game of the season, losing 6-1 in Game 5 on home ice. The loss was so bad that most fans assumed the team's season was completely over.
Now, the Leafs will get a second chance on home ice in a Game 7 scenario, and there is no doubt that the players will be motivated to play their best game of the season.
Paul Maurice on the Toronto Maple Leafs
Interestingly, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice spoke to the media on Friday night, where he had a bizarre take on how the Leafs played in Game 5.
The coach claimed that the Leafs were just as good in Game 6 as they were in Game 5 and that the team didn't deserve to get killed by the media like they did.
"They got killed for that last game and they didn't deserve to in my opinion. We had four knucklers go in that probably don't, it was a pretty tight game, didn't feel like that on the scoreboard, but if you watched the game and look at the analytics, that game was the second tightest game of the series."
Of course, a lot of Toronto Maple Leafs fans would completely disagree with an assessment like that.
The Leafs were making terrible mistakes on Wednesday night, and Joseph Woll was ineffective at times. However, it seems as though this was just a one-off.
If the Leafs play like that in Game 7, then the Florida Panthers will win this series pretty handily. If Toronto play like they did last night, then a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals is likely.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs will be up to the challenge on Sunday night. We can only hope that they are.
