Scott Laughton Explains Why His First Season with the Maple Leafs Was a Bust

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton had a disappointing end to the regular season after being traded by the Philadelphia Flyers, and now, he looks to improve.
In the postseason,
Laughton did not fare much better, and it had Maple Leafs fans enraged, especially when you consider how the team gave up a first-round pick just to acquire him.
He was meant to be the team's third-line center, but this season, it is looking like he will center the fourth line, which is a major demotion.

However, Laughton at least has some self-awareness about the whole debacle.
While speaking to Dave McCarthy on Sirius XM radio, Laughton noted that last season was extremely difficult, and that the change of scenery was hard on him.
It was hard. Definitely a change. When you're with one team for that long, you get to know everyone. You build those relationships, and that's probably the toughest part is leaving those relationships
That said, Laughton feels a lot more comfortable with the team right now, which bodes well for his performance when the season starts.
Just getting to know the staff here and the guys around the rink. It's been awesome and to get that comfortability again and to know where you're going and finding your way around the rink, it's something small but it's pretty big when you get to a new team. The new routines and the way a team does things. It was a big change for me and my family.
The Leafs do not need Laughton to be a superstar. They just need reasonable production from a guy who has gotten 40 points before.
Whether or not Laughton delivers is something that still very much remains to be seen.
