With the offseason slowing to a crawl, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to Evan Rodrigues, a Florida Panthers stud with two straight Stanley Cups.
Unfortunately, his time in Florida might be coming to an end. Why? Well, it all has to do with the fact that the Panthers are over the salary cap.
With a $3 million cap hit, Rodrigues is someone that the Panthers could trade, and the Toronto Maple Leafs would certainly be interested.

In David Pagnotta's latest trade watchlist for
The Fourth Period, he mentioned Rodrigues, noting that the Leafs could potentially use him.
He has just two years left on his contract, and he is a right-handed player who can play on a middle-six line.
Rodrigues might be a casualty of Florida's salary cap situation. He has two years remaining on his contract and is an attractive asset for another Cup contender if the Panthers opt to move him.
Last season, Rodrigues had 15 goals and 17 assists for a total of 32 points. This is a far cry from the production
Mitch Marner put up last season.
Regardless, Rodrigues would not occupy the same kind of role on the team. Instead, he would simply be someone that the Leafs have for depth purposes.
Ultimately, the Maple Leafs are looking to part ways with some players like
David Kampf and
Calle Jarnkrok. Perhaps they could be turned around for Rodrigues.
Whatever the case may be, the Leafs do have some options going forward here.
