Toronto Maple Leafs Blessed With Perfect Opportunity to Steal Mason McTavish from the Ducks

Anaheim Ducks forward Mason McTavish remains a free agent, and there is a world in which the Toronto Maple Leafs could take advantage with a well-timed trade.
Mason McTavish is a player who has been developing quite nicely with the Anaheim Ducks over the past three seasons. He had 22 goals and 30 assists last season, and seems poised to continue his improvement.
Unfortunately, he is a restricted free agent right now, and the forward has yet to come to an agreement with the Anaheim Ducks on a new contract.
With the season just a few weeks away, it is feeling as though a team could very well swoop in with an offer sheet and make things difficult on the Ducks.
Mason McTavish and the Anaheim Ducks can't get a deal done
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Anaheim Ducks are not stressing about the McTavish situation, as they are willing to keep him out of the lineup until a fair deal is made.
That said, this opens up the Ducks to some lines of attack from rival teams that would certainly love a talented center with tremendous upside on their team.
For McTavish I think it's a little bit different because Verbeek and the Ducks in the past have shown a willingness to keep guys out until get what they are comfortable with
While the Toronto Maple Leafs can't afford an offer sheet right now, they should certainly consider baiting the Ducks with some sort of trade.
If McTavish is truly unhappy in Anaheim, then his best course of action is to sign a deal and demand a move. In that instance, the Leafs would be the perfect landing spot.
The Leafs have been begging for a second-line center, and McTavish would be able to fill that role. At the very least, he could go to the third line as we wait to see how John Tavares' age catches up with him.
Of course, the Maple Leafs are short on assets, which would make a trade very difficult. Regardless, McTavish remains someone the team should keep its eyes on.
